Baltic Sea Day 2021

XXI International Environmental Forum “Baltic Sea Day”

Registration for the International Environmental Forum “Baltic Sea Day” is open.


The Forum will start on 23 March 2021 with a panel discussion on the implementation of the HELCOM Baltic Sea Action Plan (BSAP) and the region-wide process of updating it, as well as on its subsequent implementation until 2030 and the points of view of the different stakeholders involved in the BSAP processes.

Round table sessions will be dedicated to various topics such as hazardous substances, river basin management and marine spatial planning, as well as to the implementation of projects conducted by way of cross-border cooperation (BSR WaterNarvaWatManBaltic Industrial Symbiosis etc). In the discussions on hazardous substances, the results of a 2-year implementation of the Envitox and HAZLESS projects will also be presented. The session on marine spatial planning (MSP) will be supplemented with presentations about the experience of the Black Sea region countries on this topic.

Further attention will be paid to the adaptation to climate change in a dedicated round table, notably on the process of developing the Agenda 2030 for 80 cities of the Union of the Baltic Cities as well as current trends in Russia.

Forum events will be held in a hybrid format (online participation and in-person attendance), in full compliance with all safety recommendations in place due to the COVID epidemiological situation and current restrictions. The Organizing Committee reserves the right to decide to postpone the Forum, in case of strengthened restrictions and/or a ban on holding mass events.

About the Baltic Sea Day Forum

The Baltic Sea Day Forum has been held annually since 2000 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. During its 20-year history, it has become a key platform for the environmental dialogue at the regional and global level. Since its beginnings, the Baltic Sea Day Forum has attracted participants from all sectors and with a wide range of backgrounds from all over the Baltic Sea region and beyond, supporting a continuous and fruitful cooperation for a healthy Baltic Sea. In the best tradition of sharing experiences, raising awareness, fostering discussion, and presenting achievements and future plans, the Forum has actively contributed towards the ambitious goals for the conservation and protection of the Baltic Sea environment.


Coordination

The Forum is coordinated by the Government of Saint Petersburg and the State Company “Mineral”, with support from HELCOM, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, and the Committee for Nature Use, Environmental Protection and Ecological Safety of Saint Petersburg.


About Mineral

The state company “Mineral” has been officially designated as the national coordinator of the HELCOM activities in the Russian Federation by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation in May 2017. One of the tasks to be fulfilled is the organization of the annual International Environmental Forum Baltic Sea Day.
