reen Shipping Roundtable
Friday 21 March 2014

Background
The HELCOM Ministerial Meeting in October 2013 included a commitment to work towards the creation of a joint “Green Technology and Alternative Fuels Platform for Shipping” together with other regional actors in the Baltic Sea.

In order to follow up on that commitment a “Green Technology and Alternative Fuels” event was organised on 16 January 2014 by the Finnish Presidency of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) together with HELCOM and in cooperation with Baltic Development Forum (BDF) and the Northern Dimension Partnership on Transport and Logistics (NDPTL).

The event had two major outcomes:
1. The launching of the “Green Technology and Alternative Fuels Platform for Shipping”
2. The development of the “Sustainable Baltic Sea Shipping Green Technology and Alternative Fuels -draft Roadmap for future actions”.

Green Shipping Roundtable
A targeted Green Shipping Roundtable was organized on 21 March 2014 as part of the XV International Environmental Forum – Baltic Sea Day to further discuss and develop the draft Roadmap.

In order to facilitate the work, a Russian translation of the draft Roadmap was provided by the HELCOM BASE project to help engaging Russian Federation actors to the development of the Roadmap.

The detailed comments collected at the event will be incorporated to a new version of the Roadmap during the spring 2014.

Provide your input!
Please note that the Roadmap is still a work in progress and you still have the chance to provide your input to the draft Roadmap. The next major event where the document will be discussed is the 10th Summit of the Prime Ministers of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) to take place during the first week of June 2014 in Turku.

To do so please provide comments on the Roadmap to the HELCOM Secretariat, Mr. Hermanni Backer (hermanni.backer@helcom.fi), the St.Petersburg Initiative/Mr. Igor Ivashin (Info@sudoimpex.ru) and the Finnish CBSS presidency, Ms. Anita Mäkinen (anita.makinen@trafi.fi) and Ms. Lolan Eriksson ( lolan.eriksson@mintc.fi).

In case you and your organization would like to join as a “partner” to this Roadmap-process, please send the logo of your organization to the Secretariat (laura.meski@helcom.fi) and we will add your logo to the document.
