Saara Bäck

HELCOM Chair (Finland) 2018-2020

Saara Bäck is an Environment Counsellor at the Ministry of the  Environment of Finland where she heads the Water Protection and Environment Impact Assessment Unit. Throughout her career, Saara has gained extensive experience on the protection of the marine environment, notably of the Baltic Sea. She is also an expert on EU Directives such as the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) and Water Framework Directive (WFD).
