Management of Fisheries
All Baltic coastal states, apart from Russia, are members of the European Union and their fisheries activities are being regulated by the EU Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), that has recently been reformed. In 2009, EU and Russia agreed on cooperation in fisheries and the marine conservation in the Baltic Sea1.
Until year 2005, the Baltic fish resources were managed by the International Baltic Sea Fisheries Commission (IBSFC), founded in 1974 on the basis of the Gdansk Convention signed by the Baltic countries in 1973. The IBSFC was closed down in 2007.
